Correspondence of Roswell Farnham, 1861-1863.

Two bound volumes with typescripts of Civil War letters sent and received by Roswell Farnham of Bradford, Vt. The first volume contains letters to his wife and sister and others while he was lieutenant of the 1st Vermont Regiment, May 2, 1861 to August 15, 1861. It includes his account of the Battle of Big Bethel, with several sketches and maps of the battle. The second volume contains his letters in 1862-1863 while he was lieutenant-colonel of the 12th Vermont Regiment. Several letters include sketches. He describes the capture of General Stoughton, and the hard march to Gettysburg.

Roswell Farnham of Bradford, Vt., was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Co. D of the First Vermont Regiment May 1, 1861 and was mustered out August 15, 1861.
